In her forties, she entered Denver's Red Rocks Community College where her English teacher recognized her writing abilities. He published Ida Mae's freshman research paper as an example for other students. Her formal education continued through a Masters Degree in English from the University of Denver. She taught basic writing courses for college students and developed a writing manual for company employees in her fifties. When she retired in her sixties, Ida Mae began writing the story now published as FROM ASHES: A Deep Canyon Tale. Ida Mae is a member of the Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers, Western Writers of America and Women Writing the West organizations in Colorado and attends Writers Conferences in Colorado, Montana, and Michigan. She is a new member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Roscommon, MI and taught classes at the Kirtland College Writing Lab for three semesters before retiring, again, to concentrate on writing. Her Letters to the Editor and poems have been published, but FROM ASHES: A Deep Canyon Tale is her first published book. Families of all but one of Ida Mae's four brothers, her two sisters, and her one brother-in law reside an hour south of her home. She enjoys family gatherings, playing cards with friends, playing dominos with her youngest granddaughter, and cribbage with her husband. Most of all, she enjoys making new friends and re-establishing relationships with her Sterling High School class members. She recently helped organize her fiftieth class reunion. Being home again, she has become very interested in Michigan's lighthouses and explores them whenever she can. She has begun a collection of miniatures. Born
in Michigan some years ago, IDA MAE IRELAND, called Colorado home for
twenty-five years before retiring to her home state. Ida Mae is married
and has two wonderful daughters and four beautiful granddaughters.
